For BritBox, I worked closely with the BBC product team over several years to create a truly content-first user experience for its owned products, on web, mobile, tablet and smart TV apps.

This began not in the UI itself, but in the artwork studio, where we began by establishing firm new principles for dynamic, digital-first artwork, and a set of master formats, guidelines and templates to guide designers. In particular, we considered the context and sizing in which each format would be experienced, to guide things like legibility, title placement and character sizing. In an enormous effort, we then went back to refresh the existing catalogue of legacy titles already on the service.

We then used these principles and formats to form the building blocks of the brand new user interfaces across each product. These redesigned experiences put content front and centre, keeping interactive elements as simple and intuitive as possible.

I also worked closely with the editorial team on new ways to showcase the content library, through features like collections, customised stunt rails and multi-frame artwork.

Below you can compare the original user interface for web with our redesigned experience on the right.
